Poker event serves to benefit hoops club

Texas Hold ‘em will be the game Saturday night during the Minden-Gardnerville Basketball Club’s inaugural poker tournament at the Carson Valley Inn.

Dealing begins at 6 p.m., while a no-host bar and snacks, silent auction and a “poker education session” begin at 5 p.m.

The event will be held from 6-9 p.m. as a fund-raiser for the basketball club, which offers programs for girls from third grade through high school.

“We’re hoping to have fun,” event spokesman Werner Christen said. “This is something we want to build on. We’d like to make this a big deal and see where it takes us.”

The buy-in for players is $40 ($20 for a re-buy). Tickets may be purchased at the door Saturday night.

Prizes will be given to the top three finishers.

Volunteer dealers are still needed for the tournament. Any interested persons may contact Jason Carter at 265-7937 or Steve Walsh at 267-4321.
