Tigers fall against defending champs

Spanish Springs still looks like the Northern Division I volleyball team to beat.

The defending state champion Cougars defeated Douglas Tuesday night in straight sets in a Northern Division I crossover match. Spanish Springs won by scores of 25-17, 25-23, 25-23.

Kristina Barnum and Katie McCullough had eight kills each for the Tigers.

Ariah Barth added six kills and nine digs while Maddy Strauss led the defensive effort with 13 digs.

Douglas fell to 0-1 in the Sierra League standings (14-4 overall). Spanish Springs, which has seven returnees from its 2012 state championship team, improved to 11-4, 2-0 in the High Desert League standings.


Douglas defeated Spanish Springs at home 2-0. The scores were 25-10, 25-20.

Douglas (2-0) plays again on Saturday at the Rail City JV tournament Saturday in Sparks.


The Douglas freshmen lost to Spanish Springs, 2-1. The scores were 25-19, 11-25, 13-15.
