Minden triathlete Sandra Wendel won her women’s 60-64 age group at the Ironman Mont-Tremblant on Aug. 18 in Quebec.
Wendel won her age group by nearly one hour in an event that also serves as the North American Ironman Championship. She completed the race — a 2.4-mile swim, 112 cycling miles and 26.2-mile run — in a time of 13 hours, 20 minutes and 56 seconds. She finished 1,317th overall in a field of 2,300 competitors.
Wendel logged a time of 1:26:43 for the lake swim, 6:545:04 for the cycling leg and then ran 4:46:00 for her marathon.
In the process, she also qualified for another trip in October to the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. Wendel was also 21 minutes faster thanHer previous best finish in a major triathlon, fourth-place in the women’s 55-59 age group at the 2010 Arizona Triathlon.
