Armed with an experienced lineup including a returning state tournament place finisher, the Douglas High girls golf team’s prospects appear bright heading into its new season.
All six team members who played for the Tigers at the Division I Northern Regional Tournament last year return, giving coach Stephen Gustafson good reason for optimism coming into the new season. The Tigers open Sept. 4 when they host a Sierra League match at Genoa Lakes Golf Course.
Douglas placed fifth at last year’s regional tournament held at Sierra Sage Golf Course with a 754 total for two days — behind McQueen (659) and Spanish Springs (661).
Junior Koko Terada returns from a successful 2012 season that was capped off by her third-place state tournament finish at Wild Creek Golf Course. Terada and Molly Jordan both earned first-team All-Sierra League honors as well as second-team all-region recognition.
Jordan and Emily Gosselin are fourth-year seniors with the program who provide extensive experience to what appears to be a deep lineup. Jordan placed 11th at the regional tournament with a 173 score (88-85) that was good enough to qualify for state. She finished 28th at the state tournament.
Meanwhile, Gosselin shot a 205 to finish 32nd at last year’s regional, while Carly Talia finished 45th and Rachel Murphey 48th.
Talia and Murphey are both seniors. Another returnee is sophomore Mari Pimental, who closed out her 2012 regular season on an upbeat note at Genoa Lakes by breaking 100 for the first time (99).
