Wurster, Wolf Pack to tee off new season

Douglas High School graduate Bethany Wurster is set to start her junior season with the University of Nevada women’s golf team.

Wurster, a three-time regional champion for Douglas (2008-10), is coming off a 2012-13 season in which she saw extensive action for the Wolf Pack and also earned Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar honors.

Nevada opens its new season Sept. 9-10 at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Ft. Collins, Colo., the first event for the team’s new head coach, Kathleen Takaishi. The Mountain West Conference Championships will be played April 24-26, 2014 in Palm Springs, Calif.

After graduating from Douglas, Wurster played one season at Oregon State before she transferred to Nevada.

Among her highlights last season, Wurster tied for fourth with a 221 total for 54 holes at the BYU Entrada Classic in March, including a final-round 72 to help the Wolf Pack take third as a team. She carded a 78.6 average and played in eight of the Wolf Pack’s nine tournaments.

Wurster earned her All-American scholar recognition with a 3.76 grade point average for the 2012-13 academic year. She is majoring in anthropology.
