Alta Alpina Spring Century this weekend

Alta Alpina Cycling Club holds many events for riders from many parts of Nevada, California, Mountain West and the World.

However, it has become a tradition that the club hosts what started out as the Gardnerville 125-mile ride for the 125th celebration of the incorporation of the town into a Spring Century ride for its members and invited guests.

This ride has been a mainstay on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend for the past few years. There are three options for the ride this year with the addition of a low-key introductory ride up to 34 miles (Distance can be adjusted based on ability) with a reasonable start time of 11 a.m. for those who have things to do in the morning or just can’t get up early on their holiday week.

The other two options are the 70-mile Topaz-Monitor Pass loop and the 105-miler that takes you up to Lake Tahoe via Hope Valley and Luther Pass after the Monitor loop and those start at 8 a.m. for the early birds. This event is free to club members and invited guests.

We consider invited guests as those who are members of local bike clubs or advocacy groups who support common causes as the Alta Alpina Cycling Club. Otherwise, if you are not a member of a local group, we encourage you to join the club for a modest fee of $25.

This is a fully supported century with road support, water, food, energy drink and after ride barbecue, which is enough to justify the club’s membership fee and plus you would become a member of the local cycling club and all it has to offer for riding road and mountain bike routes in the Eastern Sierra and beyond. If you would like to join us on the ride and in the club, please go to for ride info and the club website listed above.
