The Douglas High boys golf team wrapped up a strong 2013 season Tuesday afternoon with Shane Pyle advancing to the next week’s state tournament and the overall team taking fifth place.

Pyle shot a two-day total of 161 to tie for 11th and punch his ticket to state.

“It was great to see Shane qualify for the state tournament,” Douglas coach Brent Eddy said. “He has put in a tremendous amount of time into his golf game and deserves to play in this tournament. I am excited for his opportunity.”

Bishop Manogue’s Harrison Holetz won the individual medal in the tournament with a score of 147.

Douglas posted a team score of 867, while Manogue ran away with the team title at 767. Reno was second at 828, Galena was third at 834 and Damonte Ranch took fourth at 858. Spanish Springs, Reed, McQueen, Carson, North Valleys and Hug rounded out the team standings in order.

Sophomore Gary Schlee took 20th at 170, freshman Collin Brooks was 22nd at 171 and senior Cody Tindel finished 29th at 176.

Senior Mike Doyle shot a 198 and junior Zander Ghan shot a 201.

“I am extremely proud of these young men,” Eddy said. “They represented themselves as well as Douglas High School in a very positive light. They were good sports while playing with integrity and dignity.”
