Softball: Lady Tigers close out regular season with sweep of Wooster

The Douglas High School softball team wrapped up the regylar season Friday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Wooster in Reno.

The wins clinched the No. 2 spot in the Sierra League for the Tigers, meaning Douglas will host the High Desert No. 3 seed — likely Reno High School — on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the first round of the regional playoffs.

Douglas opened with a 5-3 win over the Colts on Friday, getting eight strikeouts from sophomore Kali Sargent.

Leonna Mortimer doubed and Makayla Shaver hit a home run to lead Douglas at the plate.

Douglas came up with a 6-2 win in Game 2, with freshman Kaitlyn Bowman striking out four in picking up the win.

Allison Meyer, Bowman and Shaver all doubled and Maddie Parks, Meyer, Illiana Brown and Mortimer each drove in a run.

Catcher Kelly Sonnemann drove in two runs in the win,
