Carson Valley AYSO will conduct sign-ups for the 2013 fall season Saturday and May 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station No. 2 in Gardnerville at 1255 Highway 395 and June 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lampe Park Pavilion in Gardnerville.

Mike Biaggini Run to Remember 5K
The Mike Biaggini Run to Remember Honor Guard 5K will be May 11 at 9 a.m., starting at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office parking lot, continuing out along Buckeye Road and finishing back at the sheriff’s office.
Cost is $20 for runners and walkers, $15 for seniors 55 and over and free for children 12 and under. T-shirts are available for $10.
The event is not timed. Medals will be presented for all participants.

Elks Golf Tournament
The Tahoe/Douglas Dewey Shortt Memorial Golf Tournament will be June 1 at the Carson Valley Golf Course with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
Cost is $70 and includes golf, cart, lunch and prizes. Format will be a four-person scramble with a team handicap based on current handicap or average scores.

Derby volunteers needed
The annual Kids’ Fishing Derby, set for June 1-2 at Lampe Park, is seeking volunteers to help with this year’s edition.
Volunteers are needed to help set up, tear down, register, assist on the river, clean fish and other tasks beginning May 29 and continuing through June 2.
Anyone interested in volunteering can pick up a volunteer form at the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department and mail it in.
Registration forms are also available at The Tack Room in Gardnerville, or at Raley’s every Saturday in May from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All volunteers must attend one of the following volunteer meetings at the Lampe Park Pavilion: May 18, 9 a.m.; May 22, 6 p.m. or May 29, 6 p.m.

Carson Valley Days 5K/10K
The Partnership of Community Resources will host its annual fundraiser, the Carson Valley Days Walk, Jog, Run 5K and 10K on June 8 before the Carson Valley Days parade.
Runners, joggers and walkers navigate the parade route an hour before the parade starts.
Check in is at 7:30 a.m., race starts at 8:15 a.m. and awards are conducted at 9:30 a.m. at Lampe Park.

24th annual Kids Fishing Derby
The 24th annual Kids Fishing Derby is set for June 1 and 2 at Lampe Park in Gardnerville.
The derby is open to kids ages 3-12, and family activities and concessions will be available. Tickets are free, but all participants must pre-register to receive a ticket.
Derby hats, T-shirts and other re-sale items will be available for purchase. Raffle tickets are available for $1 each or six for $5. Grand prizes include a 2-seater go-kart and a Traeger pellet grill. All proceeds go back into the derby.
Registration forms, for mail-in only, are available at the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department.
Registration and session tickets will be available every Saturday in May from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gardnerville Raley’s. Registration is also available at The Tack Room, 1504 Highway 395, Unit 10, during business hours.
The fourth fishing session on June 1 begins at 2:30 p.m. and is reserved for special needs fishermen.

Grass volleyball tournament
The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department will host the fifth annual grass volleyball tournament June 9 at Lampe Park during Carson Valley Days.
Teams are guaranteed three games in pool play and entry into an elimination playoff.
Sign-in is at 8 a.m. and games start at 9 a.m., wrapping up at 5 p.m.
Adult 4x4 divisions include open, coed and women and Youth 6x6 divisions include 5/6 grade, 7/8 grade and high school. All youth divisions are coed.

Douglas football alumni golf tournament
The second annual Douglas High School Football Alumni Golf Tournament will be June 22 at the Carson Valley Golf Course.
All alumni players, coaches and family are welcome to participate.
A shotgun start is set for 9 a.m. Cost is $100 per person or $400 per foursome. Cost after May 1 is $125.
Hole sponsorships are available as well for $100 per hole.
Dinner at the Carson Valley Country Club is provided as part of the tournament and includes pulled pork, chicken, beans, salad and soft drinks. All participants receive a golf towel.

Silver Strike Lanes is participating in the Free Bowling Summer Fun program for the third consecutive summer, which runs through Aug. 31, parents can register their children ages 15 and younger for up to two free games of bowling every day.
