The Douglas baseball team fell twice in a doubleheader against Spanish Springs in Sparks on Saturday.
Douglas lost 8-3 and 2-1 as its record on the year dropped to 15-11 overall and 9-7 in Northern Division I play. It was the Tigers’ fifth and sixth consecutive losses in league play.
Kyle Johnson took the loss in Game 1, striking out four and walking one in six inning of work.
The Cougars scored five times in the first inning and cruised from there. Douglas got all three of its runs in the fourth inning on a pair of RBIs from Chase White and an RBI from Dusty Fisher.
White went 2-for-4, Cody Carter and Joe Almeida each doubled and Kaleb Foster and Cale Kynett each had base hits.
Nolan Weintz was the hard-luck loser in Game 2, striking out 6 and scattering five hits as Spanish Springs got both of its runs in the second inning.
Douglas scored its lone run in the fourth inning on an RBI from Weintz. White went 2-for-4 with a double and Fisher, Weintz, Almeida and Teddy Mason all had base hits.
Douglas takes on Reno on Tuesday and Thursday this week before hosting Reed in a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Douglas junior varsity baseball team ran into tough contests against the league leaders last week, dropping two games to Manogue and two games to Spanish Springs.
Zach Davies had eight singles over the course of the four games, adding a double. Trevor Tierney, Logan Fencl and Tomas Leitenbauer each had three singles and a double. Ben Penwell doubled and singled, Michael Mejia and Tim Cadaret each had two singles and Alberto Solis, Charles Cryderman and JP Kelly each had a single.
