The Incline cross-country trio of Katie Cochran, Chloe Dodge and Melanie Swick led the Highlanders with second-, third- and fourth-place finishes among 2A runners at the Lampe Park Class Races in Minden this past Friday.
Spencer Wilson led the Incline boys, placing fourth out of 46 runners from the 2A ranks.
No team scores were recorded at the meet as each athlete ran against his or her respective grade level.
“I’m happy with everybody, as they all showed improvement over where we were last year,” said Incline head coach Bill Devine. “The next couple of weeks are sure to reveal even more.”
In the 2A girls’ race, Becky Grabow of Sierra Lutheran captured the win in a field of 26 runners, posting a time of 16 minutes and 35 seconds. Cochran finished close behind, at 16:42, while Dodge came in at 16:44 and Swick at 17:00.
Incline teammate Kate Ballan finished seventh in a time of 18:17, Sophia Mourelatos was 10th in 19:02 and Haley Kennedy was 11th in 19:20.
Kelsey Tokunaga (17th, 20:53), Ashley Vomund (19th, 21:02), Molly Franklin (20th, 21:04) and Katelyn Offerdahl (26th, 26:10) also represented the Incline girls.
Nathaniel Williams of Sierra Lutheran took first overall in the boys’ race, beating all 2A runners as well as everyone from the 3A and 4A contingent in a blazing time of 13:17.
Wilson finished fourth among 2A athletes with a time of 14:48. He was trailed by teammate Daniel Baron, who placed sixth in 14:55, and Evan Vomund, who was 12th in 16:07.
Incline’s Matthew Hanna finished 21st in 16:59, while Lyonel Pfaender (17:07), Dylan Smith (17:10) and Mitch Comstock (17:12) came in 23rd through 25th. Will Cory (32nd, 17:57), Nick Iada (35th, 18:04), Tommy Mancuso (37th, 18:15), Josh Cutler (38th, 18:49) and Owen Price-Kelly (39th, 19:08) also competed for the Highlanders.
