Registration is now open for the Douglas Tiger Youth Football Camp being held on June 24-26 for students in third through eight grade.
Instruction during the non contact camp at Douglas High School will focus on building basic fundamental skills. Douglas Head Coach Ernie Monfiletto said the objective is to help young players who will be playing in the local Pop Warner and flag football league programs this fall.

Fishing derby volunteers needed
Volunteers are still needed to help at the 25th Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby on May 31-June 1 at Lampe Park.
Help is needed to set up and clean up for the derby, as well as registration, river help, fish cleaning and more from May 28 through the final day on June 1. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer may pick up a volunteer form at the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department. Volunteer registration forms and participation registration are available at Accolades Trophies in Gardnerville and at Walgreen’s every Saturday in May from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Minden Ranch Rodeo Aug. 2-3
The Minden Ranch Rodeo — the “Buckaroo Fest” — will be held as part of the State of Nevada Sesquicentennial Fair celebration at Fuji in Carson City on Aug. 2-3.
Minden Ranch Rodeo, which originated in 1999, is sanctioned through the Western States Ranch Rodeo Association. All qualifying ranch teams and top 15 individual event contestants will be invited to compete at the annual WSRRA National Finals Rodeo held the first week of November in Winnemucca.
The list of events for this year’s rodeo includes ranch bronc riding, women’s steer roping, calf roping, team roping, double mugging, ranch horse, branding, doctoring, trailer loading and wild cow milking.
Proceeds from the event are used to establish scholarships for local area high school rodeo youth in the local area and other charitable organizations.

Zephyr Cove Tennis Club opener
The Zephyr Cove Tennis Club will hold a doubles mixer for its season kickoff Saturday at the Zephyr Cove courts, located at Warrior Way and Highway 50.
Players of all levels are welcome to the event, which gets under way at noon. The cost is $10 and is free for club members.
Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. Guests may bring their own refreshments (no glass) as well as side dishes and desserts.

Lake Tahoe soccer camp June 19-20
The Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls College ID Camp is being held on June 19-20 for soccer players from eighth grade through high school seniors in South Lake Tahoe.
Camp sessions will be held from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, and from 9 a.m. until noon on Friday, June 20 on the Lake Tahoe Community College and South Tahoe Middle School fields.
The camp is being run by Division I Lamar University coach Orlando Cervantes, with appearances also expected from coaches representing the University of Nevada, St. Mary’s College, Chico State, Sonoma State and several community colleges, including Lake Tahoe Community College.
Coaches will give a recruiting presentation at the end of the first day and spend time meeting with players at the end of the second day. Each camper is provided lunch on Friday, the first day of camp.
