Tyler Oscarson pitched a five-hit shutout for the Damonte Ranch baseball team in its 4-0 win Thursday in a Northern Division I Region Tournament elimination game win against Douglas at the University of Nevada’s Peccole Park.
Douglas won one of three games in the tournament and ended its season with a 17-13 overall record.
Douglas recovered from an opening round loss at the region tournament Thursday at Bishop Manogue High School in Reno. The Tigers opened with a 5-4 loss to Galena — despite home runs by Makayla Shaver and Corryne Diaz — and then came back to defeat McQueen, 10-5, in an elimination bracket contest. The Tigers won back-to-back games Friday, 12-0 against Manogue and 5-1 in a rematch against Galena.
In the loss to Galena, Shaver hit a leadoff home run in the fourth inning to give Douglas a 2-1 lead. Diaz homered to lead off the seventh to make it it 5-4, and the Tigers had the potential tying run on base when the final out was recorded.
In the win over McQueen, Kelly Sonneman drove in four runs while Allison Meyer and Leonna Mortimer had two hits and two RBI apiece.
