Griffin Frensdorff and Logan Kyle both cleared 11-feet to sweep the top two spots in the boys pole vault Tuesday during the Great Sierra JV Track and Field Championships in Carson City.
Weston Rauber also took fourth in the pole vault at 10-0 as the vaulters helped Douglas High School finish second in the boys team standings with 54 points, behind only Carson’s 72.5 points. The Tigers’ girls finished fourth with 28 points.
The Douglas team of Edgar Hernandez, Matthew Marquez, Sam Melus and Josh Gurule won the 4x100 relay (48.34). Marquez, Weston Rauber, Jake Evans and Cody Ball also won the 4x400 (3:53.39).
Sam Melhus won the 110-meter intermediate hurdles (16.54) and Kenneth Cruz took first-place in the shot put (42-8).
Gurule placed second in the 100 (12.04). Reagan Roberson placed third in the discus (102-11) and Dylan Pfaffenberger took third in the high jump (5-0).
In the girls competition, Nicole Michalik led a Douglas sweep in the 800 as she ran 2:48.26, followed by teammates Kate Hill (2:54.58) and K.D. Denhert (2:56.15). Michalik also placed second in the 400 (1:09.45).
Douglas took second-place in the 4x100 relay (57.85) with the team of Dailyn Malarchuk, Taylor Gasper, Tierra Henry and Olivia Swearingen.
