Tenney qualifies for nationals

Here is a breakdown on some Carson Valley athletes who have graduated from high school and now compete in college:


GARRETT TENNEY — University of Jamestown (N.D.), 2010 Douglas graduate: The senior has qualified to compete in the hammer throw and discus at the NAIA track and field national championships. Tenney reached his qualifying mark in the hammer throw Tuesday with a mark of 176 feet, 5 inches to place fourth at the Cobber Twilite meet in Moorhead, Minn. The NAIA Outdoor National Championships are May 22-24 in Gulf Shores, Ala.

ASPEN ABBOTT — Southern Oregon University (Ashland, Ore.), 2013 Douglas graduate: The freshman helped the Southern Oregon women’s 4x400 relay team run 3:55.57 to place fourth Saturday night at the Oregon Relays in Eugene. Abbott also ran a personal record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.24 April 11 at the Chico Twilight Invitational.


SHANE FENCL — Feather River College (Quincy, Calif.), 2011 Douglas graduate: The sophomore infielder is playing for a Feather River squad that has clinched its eighth straight Golden Valley Conference championship. The Golden Eagles wrapped up their regular season Thursday at home with a doubleheader sweep of Shasta, 7-4 and 19-9. Feather River (28-8 overall) will be at home for a regional playoff series May 2-3.

CODY BEGOVICH — Northeastern State University (Tahlequah, Okla.), 2012 Douglas High School graduate: Begovich hit 4-for-9 with 3 RBI Friday in the Riverhawks’ doubleheader split at home against Washburn. He hit a two-run homer in the second inning to stake the Riverhawks to an early lead in a 5-1 win in the opener. He went 3-for-5 ith a double in an 18-4 loss in game two.
