Fishing derby registration continues

Pre-registration for the 25th annual Kids’ Fishing Derby will continue Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Walgreen’s, 1342 Highway 395.

Girls and boys ages 3-12 are eligible to participate in the fishing derby, which will be held May 31 and June 1 at Lampe Park. Pre-registration is required to reserve a place in one of the derby’s designated time slots — four on Saturday or three on Sunday. Participants are limited to one session.

Registration is also accepted at Accolades Trophies, 1532 Highway 50 (No. 10) in Gardnerville. Registration closes at 4 p.m. on May 28.

The time slots for Saturday, May 31, are 8-9:30 a.m., 10-11:30 a.m., 12:30-2 p.m. and 2:30-4 p.m. The time slots for Sunday, June 1, are 8-9:30 a.m., 10-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-2 p.m.

Volunteers are still needed to help with the event. Interested persons may call Steve Hamilton at (775) 901-3556.

FEAT run/walk Saturday

FEAT of The Carson Valley is holding its fifth annual 5K walk/10K run for Autism Saturday.

The walk/run will start and finish from Heritage Park in Gardnerville. A 9:30 a.m. start is scheduled for the 10K and 10 a.m. for the 5K. Race day registration will open at 9 a.m.

The fee for the 5K walk is $30 and $45 for the 10K, which includes a T-shirt. Sponsorships are also accepted for teams and individuals.

Proceeds go to help families pay for therapies and treatments to help children affected by autism.

Tennis clinics to be offered

The Douglas County Parks and Recreation is holding two tennis clinics from May 5-19 for boys and girls 7 years of age through high school.

A high energy beginner to advanced tennis clinic for ages 7-12 will provide an opportunity for students to learn all tennis strokes and a love of the game. Classes will be held over three Mondays from 4-4:50 p.m. at the Lampe Park tennis courts. The cost is $50.

In addition, a teen-high school prep tennis clinic is being offered for students ages 13-and-up on Mondays from 5-5:50 p.m. at the Lampe Park tennis courts.

Molly Awards on May 12

MEFIYI — Me-for-Incredible-Youth, Inc. — is celebrating its 10th annual Molly Youth Awards Banquet May 12 at the Carson Valley Inn.

Three $1,000 college scholarships will be awarded to seniors who apply. Applicants eligible for this recognition must be between the ages of 9 and 18 and a resident of Douglas County. The nominated student-athletes must qualify in each of the following areas: Academic excellence, athletic participation and community service.

The event will offer a community raffle with a grand prize seven-day Las Vegas trip in the fall that will include tickets to the Nevada-UNLV football game.

Lake Tahoe soccer camp June 19-20

The Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls College ID Camp is being held on June 19-20 for soccer players from eighth grade through high school seniors in South Lake Tahoe.

Camp sessions will be held from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, and from 9 a.m. until noon on Friday, June 20 on the Lake Tahoe Community College and South Tahoe Middle School fields.

The camp is being run by Division I Lamar University coach Orlando Cervantes, with appearances also expected from coaches representing the University of Nevada, St. Mary’s College, Chico State, Sonoma State and several community colleges, including Lake Tahoe Community College.

Coaches will give a recruiting presentation at the end of the first day and spend time meeting with players at the end of the second day. Each camper is provided lunch on Friday, the first day of camp.

Registration is $185 with early registration and team discounts available.
