The Douglas High School junior varsity softball team won three of four games this past weekend to earn runner-up honors at its own Nicole Snyder Memorial Tournament.
Spanish Springs took home the tournament title Saturday with an 8-1 victory against the Tigers at Stodick Park.
Madi Peters pitched the distance for the Tigers (15-4 overall, 7-2 league), faced 35 batters, with four strikeouts, five walks and four hit batters.
Mackenzie Rose and Nicole Rowe each had two singles and Jordyn Pinochi contributed a double to lead Douglas offensively.
Teena Marie Simpson pitched a complete game three-hitter earlier in the day to help lead the Tigers past Fallon in the tournament semifinals, 12-2. Simpson faced 19 batters over five innings, struck out three and walked none.
Chandler Howe, Pinochi and Rose each had a double and Kylie Swan added a triple to lead the Tigers offensively.
Douglas opened in the tournament Friday with a 3-2 victory against Reed.
Simpson pitched a complete game, faced 26 batters with two strikeouts, no walks and six hits.
Rose was 2-for-3 with a double and single while Kylie Swan was 2-for-3 with a double, single and walk.
The Tigers came back later in the afternoon to defeat Wooster 10-3 behind Simpson’s complete game two-hitter. She faced 22 batters, struck out seven and walked only one.
Pinochi hit 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Rowe added two singles, a walk and one RBI.
The Douglas JV club plays an 11 a.m. game Saturday at Damonte Ranch and then hosts Damonte Ranch Tuesday at Lampe Park.
