Rey posts top score in CVGC play

Jesus Rey carded a net score of 64 to emerge as the Flight A winner Sunday during the Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club season opening individual stroke play event.

Dennis Patterson shot 67 to take second-place in the top flight, followed by Bob Pemberton with a 68 and James Howard 69 at the Carson Valley Golf Course.

Charlie Poe and Joe Morrison tied for first-place in the B Flight with net scores of 68, one shot ahead of Fred Coons in third-place. Brick Ludington and Frank Tisoit tied for fourth at 72.

Four shots separated the top four finishers in Flight C, led by John Dorman’s 64. Gary Carsten finished second with his 65, Brent Holderman was third at 66 and Jim Arens fourth at 67.

John Pearson was the Flight D winner with his 64 net score. Paul Lockwood shot 69 for second-place. John Carey and Mike Saylo tied for third-place at 70.

The tournament’s closest-to-the pin winners included Tisoit (No. 1), Poe (No. 5), Mike Saylo (No. 13), Dan Essary (No. 17) and Ken Smitreski (No. 18).

The club’s next tournament is a Stableford this Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Carson Valley Golf Course.
