Douglas JV softball club second in tourney

Teena-Marie Simpson and Madi Peters combined to pitch five complete game victories to help the Douglas High junior varsity softball team capture second-place during the annual Reed JV tournament in Sparks.

Douglas won five of six games during the eight-team tournament, losing only to Spanish Springs 8-5 Saturday in the championship contest.

Simpson pitched a complete-game seven-hitter and walked none as the Tigers won their opener against Reed, 7-2. Simpson helped her own cause at the plate by hitting 2-for-3 with a triple.

Nicole Rowe also hit 3-for-3 with a double, triple and one RBI. Kylie Swan went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI and Chandler Howe 3-for-3.

Next, Peters pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the Tigers’ 15-0 win against Galena.

Douglas finished its pool play schedule with a 12-1 win against Wooster behind a pitching performance in which Simpson allowed three hits and no walks to go with five strikeouts. Mackenzie Rose and Peters both hit 2-for-3 with two RBI.

The Tigers came back to post a 19-0 victory against Fallon in the bracket play quarterfinals. Peters pitched a no-hitter with two walks while striking out seven of the 13 batters she faced in the game.

Jordyn Pinochi hit 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI, Genevieve Stodieck-Dreyer went 3-for-3 with four RBI and Rowe went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead Douglas offensively. Swan also went 2-3 with a triple and four RBI while Howe went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

In the semifinals, Douglas defeated Reed 6-1 in a rematch that saw Peters Peters pitch a one-hitter. Stodieck-Dreyer went 3-3 with a home run, triple and two RBI while Simpson went 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Pinochi and Howe both went 2-for-3 to lead the Douglas offense in the finals Saturday. Peters pitched two-hit ball and walked three batters over three innings and Simpson worked the final four innings, allowing 10 hits and one walk.
