Youth hoops kickoff Sunday

The Carson Valley Basketball Association (CVBAHoop) will host its 2014 season kickoff Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at Douglas High School.

Onsite sign-ups will be conducted for boys and girls ages 3rd through 11th grades. The event will include basketball drills, food, drinks, shooting machine and a chance for players and parents to meet the coaches.

Vendors on hand will include (Brad Cocking), Big Daddy’s bike shop, Pulse Fitness, Cookie Boy, Tahoe Orthopedic Performance Nutrition and the Team Store by A Sign Shop.

Babe Ruth sign-ups today

Registration for the Carson Valley Babe Ruth program’s 2014 season will be held today from 5:30-7 p.m. at Line Drive University, 2577 Nowlin Road, Minden.

Babe Ruth sign-ups will also be taken on Feb. 25 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Line Drive U.

Men’s golf club taking applications for 2014

Memberships are now available for the Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club’s 2014 season.

The club has scheduled 32 weekly tournaments on Sunday mornings starting on March 16. The membership fee is $55, or $45 if you are a season pass holder at the Carson Valley Golf Course. The membership fee includes Northern Nevada Golf Association membership and a Basque dinner at the County Club Restaurant following the final golf tournament on Nov. 9.

The club offers a variety of tournaments which include individual stroke play, Stableford, team best ball, scrambles, Chapman, a club championship, a President’s Cup and more. All tournaments are separated into flights and are handicapped giving players an equal chance to win.

Snowshoe race at Lake Tahoe Sunday

The annual Fresh Tracks 5K Snowshoe Walk and Race is scheduled for Sunday on Lake Tahoe’s South Shore.

Hosted by the Tahoe Mountain Milers Running Club, the event is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at Camp Richardson Resort.

Early pre-registration by Saturday is only $20 and includes choice of swag, snowshoe rental if you need snowshoes, post-race refreshments, and continued day use of groomed Camp Richardson trails. Race day registration is $30.

The beneficiaries of the event are the Eric Nageotte-Lowe Scholarship Fund for the Heavenly Freestyle Team as well as Girls on the Run-Sierras.

Snow camping 101 course being offered

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is offering a for Snow Camping 101 course on March 29-30 designed to teach basic fundamentals and safety in winter camping.

Experienced TRTA guides will be on hand to share the fundamentals of winter weather, trip planning, backcountry cooking and staying warm. This challenging overnight program is designed for people who are already familiar with summer backpacking and camping techniques, and want to try their hand at snow camping.

Line Drive U now open

Line Drive University is now open for the season. The facility offers baseball and fast-pitch softball batting cages as well as hitting, pitching and fielding practice areas.

Line Drive is located at 2577 Nowlin Road, Minden. Hours of operation are 4-9 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Call 267-3331 for information.
