The RC Morning Report for Aug. 19

School starts today for all Carson Valley students. The buses should be rolling pretty soon. Watch out for them and students heading to school.

Drift smoke in the Valley is thicker than ever this morning. There is no report of a fire here that’s causing it, but there are lots of fires in the region contributing to the general smokiness.

Santa Cruz residents Joseph V. Perez, 26, and Oscar Madriz, 26, face up to 15 years in prison at their sentencing scheduled for this morning in Douglas County District Court. The two men were arrested in March 2012 at Stateline. They are at the top of a very long calendar in Douglas County District Court.

Showers today could produce heavy rain at times after 11 a.m. today. Otherwise we’re looking at partly sunny skies with a high near 93, with the wind becoming west 5-10 mph in the afternoon.
