Outdoorsman missing in southern Sierra

On July 29, avid outdoorsman Matthew Greene, 39, was reported missing to the Mammoth Lakes Police Department. Greene was passing through the Mammoth Lakes area to do some hiking, camping, and climb peaks throughout the Eastern Sierra. He is believed to have expressed interest in climbing Mount Lyell, south of Tuolumne Meadows, Mount Ritter and Mount Banner. The Mono County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team has sent ground teams to search around the Ritter-Banner area. As a training mission, a CHP helicopter, along with the assistance of Mono County searchers, did a brief search of the area, including the Minarets. …
