A 27-year-old Gardnerville Ranchos man is in federal custody, the subject of a complaint alleging he received thousands of videos and images of child pornography.
Jarrod Allen Pounds appeared Friday in Reno before a federal magistrate, and was being detained at Washoe County Jail pending indictment.
He was arrested Thursday.
According to the criminal complaint, Pounds was a suspect following an undercover operation conducted by a special deputy U.S. marshal assigned to investigate online child sexual exploitation.
Officers executed a federal search warrant for his residence in the 1300 block of Patricia Drive on Thursday.
Occupants of the home identified the suspect’s bedroom and laptop computer. where investigators found several external hard drives which contained backup copies of his computer hard drive.
Within the backup copy, the investigator located “what appeared to be thousands of videos and images containing child pornography and child erotica,” according to the complaint.
While the search was being conducted, Pounds was interviewed by a Washoe County Sheriff’s deputy at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
He reportedly admitted using file-sharing software, but denied downloading child pornography.
Pounds was released after the interview and observed driving slowly up to his residence. After seeing investigators were there, Pounds sped away.
His father contacted him by telephone and Pounds reportedly said, “I’m sorry.” When asked why he wasn’t coming home, he told his father “you know why,” according to the complaint.
He was later taken into custody.
