Monitor Pass reopens

Monitor Pass opened Monday, the earliest it’s been cleared of snow since 2008, according to the California Department of Transportation. Road crews cleared the pass of snow, debris and made repairs to the pass in time for it to open at 11 a.m. It closed on Dec. 18. None of the other Sierra passes that are typically closed during the winter have reopened. Last year Ebbetts Pass on Highway 4 didn’t open until May 11. The earliest it has opened was May 8, 2009.
