Genoa celebrates Independence Day

Genoans had no problem filling Mormon Station State Historic Park with music and people on July Fourth.

The Carson City Symphony conducted by David Bugli performed patriotic favorites on Friday to a park packed to the gills.

“I think the turn out was equal to the past few years,” Genoa Town Manager Phil Ritger said. “The crowd built slowly through out the day. The children’s parade was well attended; they had around 120 people marching (parents and children) and the children’s games were a welcome addition to the day.”

Ritger said bands played in the park from 11 a.m. until the symphony took over.

The symphony continued the tradition of Pops in the Park begun more than 30 years ago.

The Americana Festival is funded through donations to Friends of Genoa and local businesses that purchased program ads.

Food will be available to purchase until 6 p.m.
