Surprise snow storm hits Carson Valley

Snow melts around the Gardnerville sign on Friday morning. A weather watcher reported 3 inches fell southwest of town.

About 2 inches of heavy wet snow fell in Gardnerville and Minden this morning, turning highways to slush for about an hour this morning.

Despite slick roads, there was only one reported accident, where a vehicle slid into a ditch at Johnson Lane and Vicky Way.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. Friday in the Sierra portion of Douglas County.

Most of the heavier portions of the storm should pass by noon.

Five inches of snow fell at Burnside Lake over six hours by 10 a.m., with 6 inches at Ebbetts Pass.

Rain will remain in the forecast through tonight, turning back to snow in some places early in the morning.
