Sheriff announces appointment of new deputy Michael Beals

Undersheriff Paul Howell, new deputy Michael Beals and Sheriff Ron Pierini.

Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini announced the recent appointment of a new Douglas County deputy sheriff.

Michael Beals, 26, was sworn in on Feb. 18 in a ceremony held at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Valley Station, in Minden.

The appointment comes as a result of several months of testing and evaluation consisting of a written examination, physical agility test, oral interview, extensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, polygraph examination, and medical exam.

Beals will now undergo a 12-week jail training program to provide him with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform his duties as a jail deputy.

Beals lives in Carson City. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento. Beals received his bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from California State University, Sacramento. Beals is married with no children.
