The R-C Morning Report for Jan. 17

There’s a reason it seems like everyone you know is sick, that’s because Douglas County has the highest rate of flu-like illnesses in the state. The Influenza-like Illness Surveillance Program has Douglas in double digits at 13.6. Only Elko County is close with 13.1 percent according to the last influenza weekly report.

Fewer than a fifth of Douglas County residents smoke, according to data released by the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health on Thursday. Of the 67 people to have committed suicide between 2006 and 2012, most are between 25 and 64 years old, and 80.6 percent were men.

All this info is part of an effort to complete a list of Nevada Core Health Indicators. Nevada has always had an issue with gathering basic information and putting it together in a way that’s comparable across the state. Check it out for yourself at http://health.nv.gov/publications.htm

For flu weather, it sure is nice out. Expect a high temperature in the upper 50s with widespread haze.
