‘Walk in my shoes’
October 4, 2013
Our theme this year was “Come Walk in my Shoes.”
We heard stories of those who chose to reach out for help because suicide is never the answer.
Awareness is the key to saving lives. We walked together on Sept. 14 to reflect, remember and to be aware of those around us who have displayed possible signs of suicide.
We would like to thank all of those who participated in the walk, who dedicated a memory sign to their loved ones, the many volunteers in preparation for the walk, shoes donated, and those present at the 2013 Walk in Memory Walk for Hope at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center.
More than 140 participants worked together to raise awareness, education, and advocacy.
The louder our voices are the greater our impact will be.
We would like to thank all the anonymous walk donations, Eastside Memorial Park, John Fisher of Re/Max, Bridgett, Sgt. Greg Rooney, Carl and Marie Schnock, Melinda Matus, Larry and Cathy Goss and children, Chic and Sue Moxley, Arline Zeidler, Bob at Walton’s Funeral Home, Beverly Anderson, Polly Kracher, Judy Bowe, Blue Star Moms, Carson City Health and Human Services, Carson Valley Medical Center, Bob the general manager at Costco, Douglas Counseling and Supportive Services, Vitality for Life, Diane Jennings-Kaffer, Douglas Diversity Student Club-WNC, Douglas County School District, Douglas High Psi Mu Sigma-Keith Cole the advisor, Knights of Columbus, Rob Webster, Home Instead Senior Care, Larissa and Mike Holcomb, No Place Like Home, Partnership of Community Resources, Pastor Pete Nelson, East Fork Fire, Douglas County Sheriff’s Association, WIC, Patty Syphers, Caryn at The Record-Courier, Brian at the Nevada Appeal, Douglas County commissioners, Survivor Support Group, Riley at Starbucks, Katie Pace of Dean Heller’s office, Carson Valley Inn, Tahoe Youth and Family, Fleet Reserve, American Legion High Desert, Madeline’s Cookies, Bernie Hamzik, Teresa Duffy-Explorer Coordinator, Teresa Lundberg, West Hills, Travis Sharpe, Scott and Piper Smith, American Legion High Desert Post 56 Color Guard, Douglas County Historical Society, The town of Gardnerville, Joey at Carson Valley Times, Carson Valley Signs, Patti Synder, Susan Schmacher, Linda Koleff, Vicky Lamb, Julie Davis and family, Katie Weber and family, Sharon Hill & Family, Juanita Wilcoxon, Lisa Noonan, and the board of directors: Denise Castle, Terry Taylor, Dave Brady, Barry Penzel, Jan Garcia, Tricia Wentz, Scott Smith and Tim Soule.

We also want to mention those who were with us in spirit as their voices are now silent but never forgotten.
