Douglas High School Drama is raising the stakes in the upcoming weekends with their production of “Twelve Angry Jurors.” The adaptation of “Twelve Angry Men” will be shown April 27-29 and May 4-6. Friday and Saturday shows start at 7p.m. and Sunday shows will begin at 4 p.m. in the Douglas High School Drama Room.

“Twelve Angry Jurors” is a powerful drama about the effects of prejudices, as well as a well-written display of humanity. The audience will witness the troubling events that occur within a jury room when a case does not seem as black-and-white as some may assume. After being handed the fate of a 19-year-old boy, 11 jurors are left to try to convince a juror who refuses to overlook questionable evidence.

“This production is one that will move, and perhaps change audience members,” explains Amy Sando, DHS drama teacher. “These teens spent a lot of time on discovering who their characters were and what motivated each juror’s actions. I am proud of their work and I am anxious to see the reactions of those who see this show.”

At first hesitant to do such a dramatic production, Sando is now glad that she took a risk in challenging the students with such a demanding play.

Hayleigh Green, the student director of “Twelve Angry Jurors,” also waits eagerly for the opening of the show. She inspired her cast members during a rehearsal saying that, “the audience deserves the best and that is what we will give them.”

Join the cast of “Twelve Angry Jurors” this weekend and next weekend as tension builds and secrets come alive.
