Tickets on sale for governor’s mansion tour
August 7, 2012
The Douglas County Historical Society’s Nevada governor’s mansion tour and lecture is 10 a.m., Aug. 25.
Michael E. Fischer will discuss “An inside look at the history and workings of the Governor’s Mansion.”
Fischer is a native Nevadan who was born and raised in Reno. He attended school in Reno graduating from The University of Nevada in 1971. He holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Southern California.
Long interested in Nevada history, he portrays both H. F. Dangberg and Governor John Sparks in Chautauqua performances. He was appointed Department of Cultural Affairs Director by Governor Jim Gibbons and served as Director until budget consolidations eliminated the position in late 2011.
Fischer will share both family anecdotes of the mansion and its occupants and bits and pieces of history he learned while working for the state. As the First Family is in residency, tour is on the main floor only.
Tickets are on sale at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets will not be available the day of the event.
