Thursday last day for crab feed reservations
January 8, 2013
Following last year’s event, the Tahoe-Douglas Elks ended up with about 2 pounds of leftover crab. This year, they are hoping to end up with none.
The Elks annual crab feed is 6:30-9 p.m., Jan. 19 in the CVIC Hall, with cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m.
Last year, there was a little bit left, but not much,” vice president Jim Plamenig said. “People are pretty veracious when it comes to crab and shrimp.”
On the menu is all-you-can-eat Dungeness crab, clam chowder, peel and eat shrimp, garlic bread and salad for $35. No tickets will be sold at the door, and Thursday is the last day to make reservations.
“We go to Alameda and bring it the day before,” Plamenig said. “It’s pretty good crab, and pretty good-sized shrimp.”
Along with the 1,000 pounds of seafood, there will be a 50/50 raffle and your choice drawing for items such as hotel stays and glider rides.

The Elks use the money raised to support college scholarships, seniors, veterans and other activities such as the summerfest carnival.
“At least 10 to 15 years we’ve been doing it. We do it to help support our Elks efforts and scholarships,” Plamenig said. “We work with seniors and the homeless. We donate dictionaries to third graders. We do the hoop shoot. It helps us give money back to the community.”
