Thanks for the support
June 10, 2013
On May 18, we were again reminded what a special community we share, and there are many thanks in order.
The third local walk to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and our daughter Elsie was welcomed with sunny, beautiful weather. Approximately 45 family, friends and neighbors joined us to show their support and contribute to our cause. These wonderful people helped us raise $1,205 for CFF and $455 for Elsie. There are too many people to list, but there are a few I need to acknowledge.
First and foremost, to Mom and Dad, you have always been there for us and taught us how important being selfless and altruistic is to community. You both inspire, and we could not do what we've done without you.
To Linda Reid, who although was not in attendance, organized the inaugural walk, thank you for your compassion and your drive. This event occurs annually in large part thanks to your many efforts.
Pastor Jim Beilstein (Trinity Lutheran Church) ensured the church could host our event, and more importantly he (and wife) Mary joined us in the hospital for prayer while Elsie was admitted in March. Thank you for your love and dedication.
Trish Kaepnick, you are a very special friend. Thank you for helping us get ready for the event and for always being there to help Rach smile.
There were two very special guests at our walk this year. They were walking in honor of their friend Brady who succumbed to the illness at just 14 years of age. This served as a reminder of just how precious life is, and how critical it is we do not take a single day for granted. Although we never knew Brady, we do know she is very much loved and missed.
Cystic fibrosis is a disease which affects the respiratory and digestive systems. CFF is a nonprofit, donor-supported organization dedicated to attacking cystic fibrosis from every possible angle. Its focus is to support the development of new drugs to fight the disease, improve and prolong the quality of life for those with CF, and most importantly to find a cure. Nearly $.90 of every dollar the organization earns funds these programs.
We know and understand there are so many programs and causes worth fighting for, and we thank everybody who has elected to contribute to ours. It also means so much when people ask about Elsie or tell us we are in their thoughts and prayers. Please do not underestimate simple gestures, whether it is a financial contribution to your favorite cause, volunteering for a fundraising campaign or simply reaching out to ask how things are going. Just knowing somebody cares helps us stay strong.
Thank you to everybody in this community who gives…we know how supportive you are, and for so many people in need.
