Spring-like things happening despite the weather
March 27, 2012
With the weather lately, it seems a little odd to be reminding you about spring-like activities just around the corner, but here it goes:
The Antelope Valley Lions Club’s annual Cow Pasture Golf Tournament will be Saturday, April 7 at the Baldo Giorgi Ranch on Topaz Lane. Signups start at 9 a.m., with tee-offs beginning at 10 a.m. You can either bring your own foursome or be placed with other golfers, so come on down for the golfing fun and delicious barbecue lunch.
Easter Egg Hunt
The Lions Club will again have their Easter Egg Hunt for children of all ages, starting at 11 a.m. on Easter Sunday in the areas around the Community Building in Walker. The kids always enjoy this, so bring them over for the fun.
I received a note telling me that the Chamber of Commerce is holding a candidates night on Tuesday, April 12, 7 p.m. at the Community Building in Walker. Please come and hear the people running for District 4 Supervisor. It is important to hear their opinions on matters that will affect our community.
This and That
There will be a one hour meeting, 6 p.m. Thursday, April, 5 at the Community Building that will discuss how the community might promote trails in the Antelope Valley for hiking, equestrian, ATV, snow mobiles, etc. If you have any thoughts on this, please attend.
The Eastern Sierra Unified School District held a science fair on March 14, with schools participating from Benton, Bridgeport, Lee Vining and Coleville. I’m really proud to tell you that Coleville 7th grader, Dane Pierce, won the Best Overall Project award, with our 8th graders, Lance Warner and Blaine Pinochi being their grade’s winners for the “Marble Halfpipe” entry. Congratulations to them all.
On March 10, the MWTC Coleville AWANA Club took 1st place in that organization’s Northern Nevada competition. This is a church-based group of local children, which meets every Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. at the Coleville Marine Housing Community Center. They have fun and form great friendships, as well as becoming good citizens. You are invited to come and join them on any Tuesday night.
