Service for longtime Valley resident Saturday
April 11, 2014
A memorial service for Annett Garrison is 10 a.m. April 22 at Carson Valley United Methodist Church.
Annett and her husband, Don, arrived in Carson Valley 50 years ago. She worked at Eagle Thrifty Store, Gray Reids in Carson City and Continental Telephone Co. in Minden for 20 years before she retired in 1984.
It was not their first visit to Douglas County. Don, who was elected East Fork Justice of the Peace in 1982, told R-C columnist Jonni Hill that he and Annett were taken into custody at Tahoe when they tried to get married here as a young couple.
That was around Thanksgiving 1956. They were married 10 days later in Los Angeles on Dec. 9, 1956.
Jonni ran the story for Valentine’s Day 2007, and Don said that when Annett saw it, he was in a little bit of trouble with her.
Garrison and Annett celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in 2013.

I got word this week that Carson Valley United Methodist Church Pastor Pete Nelson will be hanging up his collar this summer after 31 years.
The Nevada native arrived in Carson Valley July 1, 1983, to take up his ministry. His 25th anniversary was recognized by Douglas County commissioners.
A going away party is scheduled for June 28, we’ll get more information on that soon.
