Frank Walker, who carries the mail from Genoa to Markleeville, has been forced to use a sleigh between Woodfords and Markleeville, the snow being over two and one-half feet deep.

Chris Mattly, a well known farmer of Mono Lake, and who has resided in that section for a great many years, was arrested last week on a charge of distributing seditious literature, after the matter had been brought to the attention of the Department of Justice. Officials went to Bridgeport and swore to a warrant for Mattly’s arrest.

A new authentic “Kit Carson tree” the second one known to exist in California, has been found near the Kit Carson Summit on the Alpine highway in Eldorado National Forest, says an article in the Placerville Mountain Democrat.

Two Carson Valley pens took all three first places in competition at the first annual Western Nevada All-Breed Special Feeder Sale, held Nov. 17 in Fallon. First place, best pen of 10, and first place, best pen of 40, went to Dennis Heitman. And first place, best pen of 20, went to Frederick Dressler.

When it’s cold and wintry outside, most people look forward to getting home and relaxing after a long day’s work. But as he’s done for the past three years, Harvey’s Security Officer Bill Horning changes uniforms and prepares for a second shift. He trades his khaki uniform for a red one, dons a red velvet hat, black boots and a white beard, and gets ready to greet children of all ages.

Catalog companies sent out nearly 17 billion catalogs in the U.S. last year, using nearly 3.6 million tons of paper to do so. Gardnerville resident Barbara Flanagan said at least six feet worth of catalogs will end up at her house this holiday season. Her interest in recycling led her to the Douglas County Transfer Station, where she prompted officials to expand services to include recycling of slick, glossy magazines.
