An effort is being made to establish a telephone line between Genoa and Carson and their connect with Lake Tahoe. J.R. Johnson is negotiating for the Genoa folks in the deal.

The cemetery grounds at Genoa are sadly in need of a general cleaning and those interested have requested this paper to urge all who have relatives buried there, to co-operate in the work of cleaning up the cemetery for Decoration day.

May 13, 1932

Professor Thompson of the University of Nevada will be unable to fill the engagement as commencement speaker at the commencement exercises at Douglas high school on June 2, and it was announced yesterday that Clarence Pugh, Reno attorney will be the speaker. Mr. Pugh is a brilliant orator and before coming to Nevada was prominent in educational work in South Carolina.

May 17, 1962

Willard S. (Bud) Meneley, moving faster than light itself (or at least faster than his fellow Douglas County Planning Commission members) was elected chairman of the Tahoe Regional Planning Commission of Nevada one day before the Douglas board appointed him to membership in the regional organization. Wilfred D. (Buck) Jones, chairman of the Douglas Planning board, took the situation in hand at the May 10 meeting of the commission.

May 21, 1987

After a 2 1/2 hour standoff outside a Ranchos home Friday, sheriff’s deputies arrested a Gardnerville man who reportedly was armed and in custody of his 4-year-old son. Harrison Munger, 42, of Gardnerville was charged with spousal battery and resisting arrest. He was released later Friday on $5,500 bail.

Catherine Pellegrino’s first grade class and student council members at Pinon Hills Elementary School collected more than 3,200 pounds of food for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet during their food drive April 22 through 26. The class would like to thank parents Renee Oshinski, Shari Ruben, Shannon Dry and Werner Dollie and the school custodian, Don Peterson. Jason Carter’s sixth grade class helped the donations.
