A mining strike has been made in north fork of Red Canyon by William Brainard , who has been mining there for some time. A rich silver-lead and gold lead has been uncovered.

Sheriff Park has listened to many tales of woe in recent months and has always listened with an attentive ear to the troubles of others. Last Friday morning he had the occasion to do a little talking to himself when upon rising he discovered that during the night thieves had entered his chicken house and made away with 22 of his prize hens.

An ordinance establishing a systematic street and structure numbering system was passed last week by the Douglas County Commissioners. The ordinance also establishes penalties for failure to display the number.

Over the objections of Ruhenstroth area residents, commissioners last Thursday gave the go-ahead for a gravel pit owned by Settelmeyer Ranches Inc., to be used on projects other than the one it originally was proposed for.

A groundbreaking ceremony for a 20,000 square-foot shopping center that will house five stores was conducted Monday. It was held onsite at the field beside the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant at the corner of Waterloo Lane and Highway 395.
