December 30, 1892

Jonny Tillman, youngest son of Theodore Tillman dies at his home in upper Carson Valley Sunday morning. He was sixteen years of age.

95 years ago

December 28, 1917

The new electric power plant of the Douglas Milling and Power company was put in operation yesterday for the first time and the large water wheel; and dynamo are now running as smooth as a watch.

December 30, 1932

The operetta “In Quest of Santa Claus,” which was presented by the Minden grammar school Thursday night, was attended by a capacity house. Furmen Prudenciado furnished guitar music before the curtain rose, and Franklin Fisher gave an address of welcome.

December 27, 1962

Fire destroyed the community hall in Dresslerville early Christmas morning, burning the structure to the ground. It was the second time in 15 years that a Christmas Day fire destroyed a building in Gardnerville.

December 31, 1987

Douglas County officials will travel to Reno next week in hopes of buying 1,620 acres of the one-time Dangberg ranches in the heart of the Carson Valley. The property, consisting of most of the Home and Klauber ranches, is scheduled to be offered Monday at a foreclosure sale ordered by Nevada National Bank and postponed from Dec. 28.

Like any animal, even a glowing green snow dragon needs daily love and attention. The Weirauch family – mom, dad, 20-year-old Jen, 18-year-old Sarah and 10-year-old Victoria – mist down Lilly the Dragon with a spray bottle every night. This builds a layer of ice on her body for solidity throughout the upcoming day. The family does about half an hour of work each night on Lilly. Her eyes are usually the first to begin to melt. Lilly came to be after about five hours of work Saturday. Father Don and mother Liz are part-time woodcarvers and build a snow creation every year, as long as there’s snow.
