For school kids, summer is coming to a close and school will start this month for Douglas County kids. It’s time to think of those students in our seven elementary and two middle schools who need assistance with supplies to complete their school work. Project School Days, now in its 14th year, is a nonprofit, totally volunteer organization that fills requests from teachers for their students that need school materials.

Requested supplies range from crayons, pens and pencils to notebooks, dictionaries, backpacks and calculators. In this time of great economic difficulty we are expecting many more families to need our help. This program has been approved by the superintendent of schools.

A generous community makes this project possible by donating money that is used to purchase supplies or by collecting and donating school supplies. All the materials are donated to school children in Douglas County.

The main distribution takes place just after school starts but teachers may request supplies at any time during the school year. Last year approximately 33 percent of the district teachers participated giving supplies to about 562 kids, 10 percent of the student enrollment.
