March lecture features women of Nevada politics

The Douglas County Historical Society’s March lecture features Patty Cafferata.The March 14 lecture is at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, located at 1477 Highway 395 in Gardnerville. Cafferata will speak on some of the states’ first women political candidates, starting when women first voted in Nevada in 1916. She will talk about candidates and office holders at all levels of government; federal, state and local. Cafferata is the daughter of Nevada Representative Barbara F. Vucanovich, who served in the U.S. Congress from 1983 to 1997. She has had a diverse career in politics, law and as an author. She is an attorney and former Nevada State Treasurer (1983-1987), State Assemblywoman (1981-1983) and district attorney of Lincoln, Lander and Esmeralda counties in Nevada. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. with the lecture starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $3 for nonmembers and free to members.For more information, call 782-2555.
