Manager search hits high gear

Next week Douglas County residents will get a chance to personally meet the next Douglas County manager.
The public process to hire a county manager is only slightly more invasive than doing the job.
We've said before that public officials of any sort in Douglas County live in a fish bowl, and people love to tap on the glass.
While spread out over 740 square miles of hill and dale, Douglas County is a relatively small place with a fairly small population. A big chunk of that population is on one sort of board or another, whether governmental, political or private.
The seven candidates will be visiting Douglas County on Monday and Tuesday prior to undergoing their interview process next week.
It will be the first time we get a good look at the field, and they get an opportunity to look over Douglas County.
The insider of the bunch, Christine Vuletich, is already pretty familiar with Douglas County, and there's a Nevada native, Curtis Calder, who has been Elko city manager for more than a decade.
Of the other five, we have a former North Las Vegas city manager and the city manager of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., down the Colorado from Laughlin.
We agree with county Human Resources Manager Norma Santoyo that there's quite a collection of attributes among the candidates.
We'll see for ourselves next week how they match up.
