Looking forward to sheriff campaign

I recently attended a "Dave Brady for Sheriff" meet and greet, an opportunity to hear his message and ask questions.

Douglas County voters should welcome the first contested election for Douglas County Sheriff in over 30 years. Mr. Brady, a former Redondo Beach K-9 police officer and a Douglas County reserve deputy for 15 years, is also a certified financial planner. According to his research, the DCSO budget has quadrupled since 1986, yet the patrol presence is the same now as it was then: three cars in the Valley and two at the Lake.

Mr. Brady's proposed Undersheriff is former Douglas County Sheriff's Captain and current police chief of Lewiston, Idaho, Steve Orr. Mr. Orr is a highly educated professional who envisions a more contemporary law enforcement management program for the DCSO. He shared with us that in the few years he's been away from the DCSO, the patrol fleet has grown from 33 to 55 vehicles, with little growth in the number of sworn officers.

As this campaign proceeds, I'm looking forward to a vigorous discussion of these and other public safety issues from both sides.
