Above and beyond

Editor:

Many, many thanks to East Fork Fire Protection District Capt. Jeff Costa and his crew from Station 14 for their fast and thorough response recently.

While we were out shopping, our smoke detectors throughout the house went off. Responding to our neighbor's call, Capt. Costa and team entered our home and made sure no fire was raging, even checking the attic. They cleaned all of our smoke detectors and even replaced the batteries, without disrupting a thing. If we hadn't seen the note they left, we would never have known they had been inside, taking care of our home.

We are so grateful for our East Fork Firefighters and the care they take ensuring the safety of our homes, our neighborhood and our community.

Jacks Valley thanks volunteers

Editor:

Jacks Valley Elementary School would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our outstanding volunteers. Sometimes life gets so busy and we forget to take the time to say thank you to all of the special people in our lives. We know that time is the most thoughtful gift that you can give our students and we really appreciate all of the time that so many adults have given our school.

We want to reach out to our Costco tutors who help our second graders, our Reading PAWs volunteers Bea and Elsa the dog, the Sierra Lutheran High School mentor students, volunteers who bring food (Wayne and Bonnie), a special thanks to Hilltop Community Church, Corpus Christi

Catholic Church, Genoa Community Church and the East Fork Fire Department for funding food, school supplies and so much more.

A big thank you goes to our Parent Teacher Student Organization and all of the work they have put into the three Fs —Family Nights, Field Trips and Fundraising. We have deep-seated gratitude for all of our parent volunteers who read with children, make copies, stuff Pee-Chees, cut out things, and so much more. We wouldn't have clubs without our parent volunteers who coordinate Garden Club, Chess Club and help with out Student Council.

Many of our volunteers take the time to brighten up a student somehow during their 86,430 seconds in each day.

It is not happy people who are thankful; it is thankful people who are happy! Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making us all so happy.

Is Trump crazy?

Editor:

Psychologist John Gartner, who taught at John Hopkins University School of Medicine for 28 years, wrote an article in the USA Today edition on May 5, 2017 entitled

"DIAGNOSIS: MALIGNANT NARCISSISM." referencing President Trump. I urge you to read it online using Google..

Gartner references other professional sources including psychoanalyst Otto Kernberg who defined the term "malignant narcissism" as having four components: "narcissism, paranoia, anti-social personality and sadism." Gartner goes on to show how Trump fits these attributes in spades. He has founded a movement called "Duty to Warn" stating that President Trump is too mentally ill to competently serve and should be removed under the 25th Amendment to our Constitution. A multi-city March for Sanity is planned for October 7 "to make America Sane Again."

As an educated person I've long felt that there is something mentally unbalanced about Trump and have concluded we are all in danger from a man who has access to our nuclear trigger. Many years ago I had reason to research this subject of what was then called, broadly speaking, a psychopathic personality disorder authored by a pre-eminent psychiatrist named Hervey Cleckley entitled "The Mask of Sanity." He describes a constellation of symptoms for this condition through which I recognize Trump for who he really is. Pray for the safety of all us and join the movement referenced above – a "March For Sanity" on October 7.

Amodei vote disappointing

Editor:

I rarely write to papers but after this weeks vote on health care by our Congressman Mark Amodei, I felt obligated to do so. On such an important topic, how could he possibly vote "yes" on something with absolutely no feedback prior from the Congressional Budget Office who had not even evaluated the bill.

This is outright reckless financial behavior from a public servant, something you would not expect from a truly dedicated representative nor an independent thinking Nevadan.

This pretty much is an indication that he is nothing but a puppet to his party and that his constituents, regardless what party they belong to, are on on the back burner when it comes to his decision making regarding fiscal matters.
