Happy New Year from Antelope Valley
December 31, 2012
I hope your holidays were warm and happy with family and friends, and we’ll hope the new year is good to all.
We have all noticed how different the weather has been, compared to last year. It makes me wonder what kind of season we’ll have to remember when spring comes. I received a bulletin from the Mono County Sheriff’s office about the serious avalanche danger in the backcountry. They said it is extremely severe now, with the types and volume of snowfall we have had so far. They caution that you should always tell someone who is not going with you where you are going, and who will be going with you. Please be very careful if you plan this type of outing.
Fishing season at Topaz Lake began Tuesday. There will be the annual fishing derby for people over 21 years old. Fish caught should be checked in at the Topaz Lodge store, and I’m sure there will be some good prizes for the successful fishermen. Last year Mike and his good friend Bob caught some real nice fish, and they are planning on it again. Fishing licenses are available at either of the stores in Walker or at the Lodge store.
The Walker Senior Center is having their bingo games on Jan. 11 and 25, taking place right after lunch. Everyone has been enjoying the games, and there is a great group that will be there. Come on down and give it a try.
Stay warm and cozy, and have lots of goodies for snacks.
