Great precinct meetings
February 7, 2014
On Jan. 29, the Republican Party of Douglas County held its bi-annual precinct meetings. As the chairman of the Douglas County Republican Central Committee, I wish to thank the people who made these meetings possible.
Appreciation goes to Douglas County and the East Fork and Tahoe-Douglas fire districts for providing multiple firehouses to serve as meeting locations.
Both entities worked with our organization to secure the date and make the process easy and equitable for everyone.
There were numerous precinct captains and volunteers willing to step up and lead attendees through the meetings, from delegate registration to the discussion of issues important to voters.
Our vice-chair, Mary Porter, worked numerous hours putting the program in place, securing the venues, training our people and ensuring we were in full compliance with NRS requirements. Great job, Mary.
To everyone who attended, I applaud your continued desire to be participants in our process and for having chosen to forgo the role of bystander.
I also want to recognize the fine performance of The Record-Courier, for upholding the tradition and obligation of every great American newspaper in guaranteeing that each individual’s voice is heard, regardless of party affiliation.
The DCRCC recently moved its office to a new location. It is with some irony and a healthy sense of humor to note we are now located only a few doors down from the headquarters of our friends, the Douglas Democrats.
I look forward to us being good neighbors and having the opportunity to engage in some spirited debate as we move through this election year.
Before we get into the nitty gritty of this fall’s election, I wish them well with their upcoming precinct meetings.
Douglas County residents are an engaged group of citizens.
This is the requirement and obligation of every successful community.
