Great green living festival

Vicki Bates on behalf of the Board of Sustainable Living & Renewable Energy RoundupGardnerville

EDITOR:There was a lot of fun and a lot of good information flying around at the Green Living Festival on Sept. 15. We’d like to thank the sponsors that helped make it all possible: Megawatt sponsor NV Energy and battery sponsors Builder’s Wholesale, Comstock Seed, Hungry Mother Organics and EnergyFit Nevada. We also thank Sierra Creek Graphics for designing the poster and ad, Raley’s Gardnerville for supplies for the Discovery Center, and Kim Mileo of Otis Spunkmeyer for cookie dough for the sun ovens. Then there were the awesome volunteers: students from the DHS Environmental Club who were out there setting up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning, students from GES who helped in the Discovery Center, and the “regulars” who help do whatever needs done every year — you guys are the best. And thanks to the exhibitors who buy booth space and spend their whole Saturday out there, and the workshop presenters who also sacrifice their day off to help us offer free information to the public, including the team from Lahontan Cuthroat Trout Fish Hatchery with the Giant Inflatable Fish and live fish tank, Full Circle Compost with their tomato tasting, Douglas Disposal for handling our recycling efforts, Pam Petite for teaching the nature journaling and sketching, and Mary Kay Wagner and John Coburn of the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection for demonstrating their watershed model. We have lots of ideas for events like this but not enough time and people to act on them, so if you’d be interested in being a part of bringing sustainable practices to the community, please contact Vicki at
