Gardnerville resident hosts divorce retreat

Staff Reports

One of the wedding capitals of the world—Lake Tahoe—is set to become Splitsville, when an estimated 200 or more divorced people arrive in Tahoe City, Calif., for the “Rebuilding Your Life After Divorce Mountain Retreat” on Sept. 15-17 at Granlibakken Resort.

The retreat will help the newly single cope with dating after divorce, single parenthood, finding joy on their own, career frustrations and more.

Gardnerville resident Kimberly Pryor, author of “The Indestructible Relationship: Support and Understand Each other Better During Grief, Illness, and All Life’s Stressful Moments” organized the retreat.

“I noticed some common problems among my divorced friends,” Pryor said. “Many of them were beating themselves up over the role they thought they had played in the breakup of their marriage. Others were happy the bad marriage ended, but were either nervous about having to date again or when they did start dating again they would meet men or women who were not what I would call the highest quality.”

Speakers include authors such as Charles Orlando (The Problem with Women… Is Men), Lisa Steadman (It’s a Breakup Not a Breakdown), Shela Dean, (ReDate Your Mate: 4 Steps to Falling in Love All Over Again), Theodore Henderson (The Wisdom Compass), Susan Sheppard (How to Get What You Want From Your Man Anytime), and Julia Bowlin (To ME I Thee Wed).

In addition, South Lake Tahoe Emotional Freedom Technique practitioner Rosemary Manning will show attendees how to create emotional balance when life feels overwhelming after divorce, and Barbara Smailey and Leslie Petruk will show single parents easy ways for kids to thrive after divorce.
