Flu season is not over yet in Antelope Valley
February 12, 2013
Beside the flu that we can be vaccinated for, we also have to worry about a gastrointestinal illness that is circulating in our area. That is the norovirus, which will take effect within 12-36 hours after exposure. It doesn’t last as long as the regular flu, but can be very serious. Please be sure to wash your hands often and thoroughly after touching things like grocery carts where someone else can have left the germs. More good advice is to eat well, drink plenty of fluids, and get adequate rest. Please take care of yourself.
Local thrift store
The Walker Thrift Store and Recycling Center has some really nice and gently used winter and spring clothing available in the store at super low prices, along with the opportunity to receive payment for recycling your aluminum and plastic beverage containers at the best prices allowed by the state. Your resaleable clothing and household items are gladly accepted for resale, with the funds used in various programs for the benefit of area seniors. The staff is ready and willing to help you with your donations during their hours of 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Stop in and meet them and check out the facility at 399 Mule Deer Road. The week of Feb. 18-23, you can buy a bag of clothing for only $5, so go in and get a good deal.
Women’s Club open house
The Women’s Club is inviting you to get involved in the community through their organization. To do this, they will have an open house on Thursday, Feb. 21, 1 p.m., at the Community Building in Walker. This is a very good organization to get involved in.
This and that
Saturday, Feb. 21, our local VFW Post will hold their monthly breakfast at the Park Building in Topaz Ranch Estates. At a cost of only $5 for adults and $3 for children, you’ll get a great meal, so enjoy.
Fishing season at Topaz Lake was slow for a while, but it has picked up fast since the weather changed. Mike and Bob went last week and came home with several really nice trout and will be going back very soon for more.
