Fishing time has arrived
May 8, 2012
The start of our fishing season seems to have helped our weather a bit, with more warm days to enjoy the river. Everyone seems to be ready for the fun of getting out and catching “the big one.” During the opening week my husband, Mike, went out on the West Walker River with two good friends.
Bob caught a six-pound rainbow, and Lonnie caught a four-pounder.
They were gorgeous fish and really got the guys pumped up about getting out there. If you haven’t done any fishing yet, you should get down here and try our lovely river and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
I wrote in my last column about medical transportation by air. A gentleman from CalStar, which I mentioned in the column, called me to let me know that the ideal group to speak to for our area is Care Flight.
I know we are all aware of their transport of people to hospitals from our valley, so I got the information for their service.
It turns out that for $55 per year, all members of your household will be covered for flight expenses not paid by your insurance.
The cost for that service is very reasonable, so we signed up for it. If you are interested in more information, you can contact Care Flight at (775) 858-5700 or got to their website at http://www.care-flight.com.
Celebration of Life
There will be a memorial service on May 19 at noon for a lovely lady our community lost, Patti Garcia. The service will be held at the Topaz Lake Fire Station. This a sad loss for those of us who knew her, as well as her large family.
The High Point Curve Correction project began the night road closures of Highway 395 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on May 3.
These will continue every night until 7 a.m. on May 17, as the latest bulletin from CalTrans states. During the daytime, there will be delays of up to 20 minutes, so plan ahead for your trip past this project.
Another bulletin received from CalTrans says that Highway 108 over Sonora Pass was opened for the season on May 4.
I haven’t heard anything about when Tioga Pass will open, but it shouldn’t be much longer, weather permitting.
Don’t forget Mom
Remember that this coming Sunday, May 13, is Mother’s Day. Be sure to thank all the moms out there for their being there for us.
